All Of It

makes me happy.

Here's a little bit of red and white to get you fired for your Canada Day long weekend celebrations.

And here we have the CN Tower lit up with the colours of the rainbow for those of you who are celebrating Pride this weekend.

Me personally, like the true Torontonian I am, will be celebrating everything and everyone.

Have a great long weekend.

One love.

A Clean Slate

makes me a happy.

Just wanted to let you know I'm over my near death experience on the front stoop and am about to head out, hit some patios and catch the Jay game with my most special guy of ten years and one day.

And I'd like to leave you with this...

To understand everything is to forgive everything.

The Last 87 672 Hours

make me happy.

Ten years ago today Kevyn became my main squeeze and we began playing this game of Life together.

I had pulled out these old Polaroids, from our first few months together...

with a plan in mind to share our sappy love story...

and blow you away with all the funny coincidences that lead up to our meeting - including the story of this photo taken about 5 minutes before I spoke to Kev for the first time.

I thought I'd amuse you with these gems of us painting our first apartment...

and the fun and games that all to often ensued.

But, due to a late night bronchospasm had by yours truly, which found me doubled over on the front stoop gasping for air, in the same fashion you might if you were breathing through a straw while King Kong sat on your chest - all the while listening to my husband slowly meandered up to the toilet and back to the bed - I'm just not that into it

I'm not feeling the love. Even writing that was hard - but true. I coulda died yo!

Still, I know there is a reason the Universe sent me this anniversary lesson...

and I'm not ready to give up and pack it in over one night of complete disregard for my life on the part of one, normally, extraordinarily loving and compassionate husband.

Just the opposite in fact. I'm packed, primed and ready to party for another ten!

Robert Frost

makes me happy.

The other day, Dave, Kevyn...

and I, needed to get from Point A to Point B.

We decided the quickest way would be a straight line...

also known as the road less traveled.

Interestingly, the way we traveled to our destination proved to be more fulfilling and invigorating then the actual arrival itself.

Yes Mr. Frost, taking the one less traveled does make all the difference.

Crazy

makes me happy.

The weather in Toronto has been a wee bit nutty as of late.

Sunny skies, dark skies, rain, hail, more sun followed by breath taking rainbows... all within a twenty minute time period.

I always love reading people's Facebook status updates during these cockamamie weather systems. Some love, others hate it and many are downright confused.

I personally like it. It keeps me on my toes. I think it's exciting, exhilarating and kinda CRRRRAAAAZZZYYY! Just like life.

A Little Bit Of Help

makes me happy.

Anyone remember when we finished doing this?

Or when we began doing that?

Well apparently we needed some help.

Big time help!

I don't want to spoil the big surprise but feel free to visit here to get an idea of the way in which help arrived.

And just in case the universe hasn't felt the enormous amounts of gratitude I've been sending her way, I like to take this opportunity to publicly declare my inordinate appreciation for sending us a little bit of help in the most remarkable form and with exceptionally spectacular people.

THANK YOU!!

My Softball Team

makes me happy.

I wish I had some shots of my team in action from our last double header...

unfortunately, our second game, the one where I was going to take said action shots...

got rained out.

The thing with this crew, and the reason why I'm so grateful to call them friends...

is that with them, a damp field does not equal a damp spirit.

Of course on the drive home the sun came out, which only complimented the warmth I was already feeling in my heart.

My Morning Jacket

makes me happy.

There was something about the blowing clouds...

in the blue - grey sky last night...

that truly set the mood for the hauntingly magical concert we were about to enjoy on the other side of that door.

If you haven't heard of My Morning Jacket before then give them a listen.

If you have - check your local concert listing and yourself to the next nearest show. You will not be disappointed.

They rocked my world hard last night!

A Mellow Fellow

makes me happy.

The pressure was on this past weekend as the calender said it was time to let Dad know how important he is to us all and how much we love him...

and with mom laid up in the hospital, rehabilitating her new bionic knee, we knew we had to knock this one out of the park.

Or did we?

Would this man love us any less if...

the salad was over dressed?

Or the mushrooms were chopped too large?

What if we took a break to stick our feet in the pool?

Or if the steaks weren't exactly medium rare?

Would he loose his mind and freak out on these two guys?

I'm thinking not.

His love is kind that doesn't judge. That makes you feel like it's okay to make a mistake. That let's you know you're already good enough.

And when you sprinkle that kind of love on top of the steak, the salad and the mushrooms - add in one dog eating Yorkshire Terrier, and you've got yourself a grand slam of a Father's Day!

Endeavoring

makes me happy.

This is my last photo of our baby robins in the nest.

This afternoon, on my walk home from the subway, I was the unfortunate witness of an adult morning dove falling from a tree.

I stopped and stood there for a moment, confused by what I was looking at.

As the dove flapped around on the grass, obviously injured, this little guy fell to the ground about 30 seconds after her.

What was going on?!?  I stepped back and looked up the tree to find a very large crow preying on the remaining babies.  I hooted and hollered, waving my arms in the air, scaring the crow enough to take off... albeit sadly, with one of the chicks in his beak.

Upon my return home I shared my sad news with Kevyn, who was quick to inform me, we too were the owners of an empty nest... but a happy ending.

While mowing the lawn this afternoon he had cause to pause when he noticed Cashius walking in slow circles around the patio.  Upon further inspection he discovered she was following around one of the baby robins that the Mrs. had tossed from the nest, trying to get a good sniff.

Kev told Cash to give the baby bird some room, and off it hopped to the safety of a wood stack between the fence and the shed.

After all the hard work both those mother birds put in, I'm not positive if either of these chicks will make it.

But what I do know, by proof of our 4am bird alarm located in the pine tree outside our bedroom window, is that they will continue to endeavor and success will be theirs.

Thanks for the reminder my feathery friends.

Veritas

makes me happy.

Last night Kevyn's brother Dave invited us down to his restaurant Veritas for a special Local Farmers Dinner they were hosting.

The event was a wonderful collaboration of like minded farmers, wine makers, cheese producers and restaurateurs who all have strong ideas and beliefs about creating and enjoying local sustainably harvested foods.

So we ate...

and learned...

and ate...

and drank a wee bit too.

It is my opinion that this way of thinking about, and producing, food and drink is the way of the future and I'm so very proud of my brother-in-law for creating a place where all this positive energy is translated into the most delectable dishes.

Good on ya Dave!
