Falling Asleep Smiling

makes me happy.

If I were to write a How To list for falling asleep with a smile on your face it would definitely include the following -

Make your way over to High Park (Toronto's version of Central Park)...

with your friends, their babies...

and the dogs.

Walk around mindfully enjoying the colours, the sounds and the smells.

Have a spiritual visit with a couple of your angels.

Invite over a couple girlfriends,

maybe a few more...

heck, invite them all!

Talk,

play dress up,

pass around the babies,

eat,

drink,

and be grateful.

Man, did I sleep well last night.

Strange Days Indeed

make me happy.

This was the view from my back door the other day.

As John Lennon so eloquently put it,

Nobody told me there would be days like these... strange days indeed.

And you know what?

I'm glad! 'Cause, I like surprises!

Geeky Glasses

make me happy.

One of my new favourite bloggers, Joanna Goddard, did a post recently about geeky glasses being the hot accessory in Charles Anatase's recent spring runway show.

Now, I think I'm going to toot my own horn here...

but here's a shot I snapped of Kev getting his geeky glasses on back in '05!

2000 and 5 people.

All I'm saying, if you're looking to keep abreast of the latest quirky accessory trends, well then... stick with me kids.

We like to shop for ours at the Goodwill.

Happy hunting.

My Very Thoughtful Husband

Today is a long day for me. I'll leave my house in about twenty minutes and won't return until about midnight.

Kevyn, on the other hand, has the whole day off. But you want to know what he's offered to do with his day off?

Clean the house.

Am I a lucky girl or what?

Balls

make me happy.

Jodie and Erin are moving to Belize and opening a restaurant.

As we all deal with a very long, cold winter up here in Toronto, and many of our friends work in the Bar & Restaurant industry, Jodie and Erin are living the dream for many of us.

So it was the consensus, at their going away party last night, by all those who've ever dreamed about embarking on an adventure like this, that what their about to do takes balls.

Here Dave and I are all like "Yeah, you cats got balls."

Editor's note :
Seriously - how small is my head?

Here's another example, different night - same pea head!?!

Any-hoo, back to my story about balls. Some whispered about it...

others found it downright sexy...

but everyone agreed that Jodie and Erin's balls - need to be recognized and saluted!

Cheers friends!

All the best.

Being Mrs Lazy Bones

makes me happy.

Kev, Laura and I hit the town last night.

Today I'm feeling very lazy. The problem with that though is, my lazy feeling are usually followed by guilty feelings.

It has been through years of mentoring that Kevyn has been begun to show me the joys of embracing a lazy day here and there.

With his teachings in mind, I chose to not even crack open my iphoto, rather have him email me one of his photos from last night.

And just like that - today's post is done!

Happy relaxing.

$1.99

makes me happy.

This is my new vintage toque.

I dig it.

It was $1.99.

For real.

The Night Walk

makes me happy.

I love walking with Kevyn and Cash at night.

The dark blue sky, the stillness, the moon, the crisp air - it's all so very, well... peaceful.

Ella

makes me happy.

Ella is Len's mom.

Len was our dear friend, the one on the right, who passed away while playing hockey with Kevyn three years ago.

This past weekend Emma, Dave and myself drove an hour and a half out of Toronto to celebrate Ella's 80th birthday.

Emma was engaged to Len at the time of his passing...

and in a whole other post, which I might title 'A Most Beautiful Love Story,' someday I'll tell you how we believe Len sent Dave to Emma for her happily ever after, but that's not today's story.

Today is about Ella, whose fourth adoption saw her bring home our boy Lenworth.

Ella, whose love is so strong, whose smile is so big, and whose ability to spread joy knows no bounds.

Ella, who brings out the best in everyone.

Ella, who, without a doubt, is a personal marker of how to live my best life.

Contradictions

make me happy.

I learned to make my mind large,

as the universe is large,

so that there is room for

contradictions.

The Slightest Things

makes me happy.

I read this great explanation of a teacher the other day...

The teacher never tells the disciple what he or she should do. They are merely traveling companions, sharing the same uncomfortable feeling of "estrangement" when confronted by ever-changing perceptions, broadening horizons, closing doors, river that sometimes seem to block their path and which, in fact, should never be crossed, but followed.

There is only one difference between teacher and disciple: the former is slightly less afraid than the latter.

- Paulo Coelho

Interestingly my favourite thing in the photograph above is the slightest thing - the airplane. Imagine the how little fear those teachers must have had to turn their dreams of flying into a reality?

Being On A Need To Know Basis

makes me happy.

You know what I'm not a fan of? Secrets.

You know why? Because, chances are, somewhere, somehow the secret is having, or will have, a negative impact on someone else's life.

Call me selfish if you want, but I just don't want to be a part of that kind of energy.

I'm living on a need to know basis over here and secrets - well I simply don't need to know.

These Four Studs

make me happy.

On my list of favourite things about Thanksgiving '08, watching these handsome fellows...

head over to the park...

to toss around the pigskin, ranked right up near the top.

For an hour or so the boys created plays...

constructed defences...

ran, jumped, laughed...

showed off for the ladies...

and clearly burned enough calories to indulge in a second helping of, well... everything.

Like I'm always saying people, it's all about balance!
