Hitting The Off Switch

makes me happy.

Christmas came, and it was white.

The sun was shining, and my world seemed full of peace.

With my heart full of love, I began to decompress.

It was sometime between opening the presents and eating one of the many meals my parents prepared when I began to embrace - full on relaxation mode.

The best way I can describe what it felt to shut it all down is by asking you to remember what it was like for Iron Man to land and turn off his suit.

Ahhh - it was time to lie in the sun...

and walk in the fog.

Watch lots of movies and do nothing at all.

I really needed that.

The Days Before Christmas

make me happy.

Since you've seen me last, the hustle and bustle continued as I finished up my shopping, wrapping and working...

got down in Other People's Livingrooms...

flew across the city...

and celebrated Christmas Eve with Kev's family, enjoying each others company, eating prime rib and playing Clue.

I was so exhausted following our party last Sunday I felt like I could have laid down, and stayed that way, for at least 48 hours.

Interesting how the magic of the holiday season, along with the joy of spending it with your most wonderful family and friends always seems to unleash those hidden stores of energy you just didn't know you had.

Ahh - love!

December 21st

makes me happy.

December 21st makes me happy for a few reasons.

Firstly, and most importantly, it's my sister's birthday - isn't she looking gorgeous in her gold sparkles?

Secondly, and something all my Northern Hemisphere buddies have in common, it's the Winter Solstice - which means summer's right around the corner right?

And thirdly, it is my humble opinion that December 21st is the perfect day to have a Christmas party on - yes?

So to get a little bit of quality time in with my big sis before the big par-tay...

we grabbed our husbands, a couple of her most special friends, and headed out to 7 Numbers to enjoy a lovely rustic Italian dinner on Saturday night.

Because on Sunday, we had about 50 of our nearest and dearest pop by to celebrate all of the above and life in general!

As hosting a gathering that large kept me quite busy...

I didn't seem to find the time to spend taking as many photos, or the quality of photos, I usually do.

What I found interesting, going through the ones I did take today was...

considering the number of people at the party and how few times I pulled out my camera, there were a certain few people...

who appeared...

over...

and over,

and over again in them.

It was like their energy magnetized my camera.

If I was the paparazzi, they were my Britney Spears.

Even when I didn't want to look - I couldn't turn away!

We've all got a couple of them. Those friends that captive, charm and crack us up. They are - The Superstars of our lives!

And my head is still really small.

And I love when people dance in our living room.

And I too dream about peace on earth.

Happy Birthday sista - and thanks for sharing your special day with me and these ya-hoos!

My Hot Snow Man

makes me happy.

There is a blizzard currently rocking The Great White North.

Good thing I got this hottie to keep me warm tonight.

Happy snuggling.

An Oldie But A Goodie

makes me happy.

Although we did spend the second half of today shopping, this is not a photograph from said adventure.

No, this is a shot from Christmas shopping past.

Christmas shopping present was tremendous.

But now I'm spent, excuse the pun, and re-gifting you this fun photo from a old shoot.

You like?

The Games She Plays

make me happy.

Cash loves to play ball in the snow.

Specifically, she loves to play...

Even though I'm not looking at you - I'm still watching.

Move. I dare you. Do it. Just try it.

Oh no you didn't!

And let that be a warning to all rascally rubber balls hanging out in our parks this winter.

Giving Out My Energy

makes me happy.

Just finishing up The Celestine Prophecy and came across another part of the book that totally spoke to me.

It's during the explanation of the eighth insight when the story teaches us how to communicate with each other.

As they put it...

"When we appreciate the shape and demeanor of a person, really focus on them until their shape and features begin to stand out and to have more presence, we can then send them energy, lifting them up. "

Or as I've always put it, all I ever want to do is give people the strength, space and love to be the best person they can be.

I think maybe I was on to something, yes?

Gettin' Her Done

makes me happy.

Kev and I are both of the mindset that Sunday's are for relaxing.

Now, come the Sunday less then two weeks before Christmas - all bets are off!

From the first squeak of the floor boards when Kev got up to go pee yesterday morning, I was all over him. First literally, if you know what I mean - wink, wink - and then figuratively, to get going!

As I'm not the kind of wife that likes bossing her husband around or messing with his sleep, I was hoping my Let's Get Her Done attitude wasn't going to brew resentment and animosity in my better half.

It did not. As much as Kev loves his sleep, when push comes to shove, I know I can always count on him.

So we grabbed some fruit and off we went!

Here. There. Tim Hortons. Everywhere.

He even made an out of the way stop for me to purchase 15 Better Homes magazines from the 1950's which I found on Craigslist.

Yes, you are correct - I have a retro decor fetish.

Once back home, it wasn't until after he helped put up decorations, did the laundry and made me lunch that he fell asleep... with one of our old trees on his lap which he was painstakingly removing all the old lights from.

Thanks for being the hustle to my bustle baby.

Light Bulbs & Sunlight

make me happy.

You know what I love?

I love when I've turned on some of the lamps through out my house because the winter's day began so overcast and grey that the extra illumination they provide was almost needed.

And then, around 10:30, the clouds blow over, the sunlight pours in - at the low angle that only happens in the winter - and for a few minutes both the lamps and the sun fill the room with a magical glow.

I have the same feelings in the late spring when the street lamps come on and the sun hasn't quite set yet.

Anyone else buying what I'm selling?

A Little Sleep In

makes me happy.

I've been working lots!

Tomorrow I'm going to sleep in.

It already feels good.

Little Balls Of Energy

make me happy.

I'm currently reading The Celestine Prophecy and at the part in the adventure where our hero is learning about the sixth insight.

Already conscious of the coincidences in our lives, from reading about the first insight, the timing of Reese and Noah's visit coinciding with this chapter of the book came as no surprise.

I find the theory, of the fourth insight, that humans try to compete and manipulate each other to steal energy from one another to feel powerful, rings very true to my experiences on earth thus far.

So, you can imagine how thoughtful I found the sixth insight as it explained specifically how we do this and to learn that these are habits we all acquired in our childhood.

Now I've always believed that our childhood plays a large part in who we become and how we behave as adults but, I've never been one to believe these habits and behaviours are irreversible.

Neither does the book. Instead it invites reader to 'reinterpret his family experience from an evolutionary point of view' and get clear about our own particular control drama's inception( be it the intimidator, the interrogator, the aloof or the poor me kind) and remain conscious of it.

Once that happens - 'our control drama falls away and our real lives take off.'

And what does this all have to do with Reese and Noah?

Well, from an evolutionary point of view, it appears to me, each generation of moms and dads is learning to inflict less and less of their control dramas on to their children and soon we will have learned to raise humans who don't compete and manipulate each other for energy.

Rather, they will freely and gladly exchange energy, with each other and all of the universe, with love and compassion.

Can you feel it?

Photo Booths In Need Of Repair

make me happy.

While out and about on Sunday afternoon...

we happened across an old photo booth...

and all piled in.

Only to discover - it was out of order.

Well you know what they say about when life hands you lemons...

squeeze yourself into the corner and take the photo yourself.

A little innovation and a pocket still full of change?

Life, she tastes sweet!

A Seven Hour Brunch

makes me happy.

Yesterday marked our third annual Christmas brunch with Fitz and Megs.

I don't know about you but, I find older I get, the quicker my calender fills up.

And since a day filled with bloody ceasars, eggs...

shopping...

sweet potato fries...

wine...

tea...

cards, and the company of two of our best friends, nears the top of our Favourite Things To Do list - we began planning for this day back in October.

After all, it's my humble opinion that, you don't find the time to make special days like this happen, you make the time.
