The Sandmen

makes me happy.

Last night while Bobby was over, somewhere in between his story about dressing up in head to toe welding gear to decimate a swarm of hundreds of bees that were locked in his buddy's bathroom after having made their way from the attic through the moist shower ceiling, and Kevyn's story about fumigating his bachelor pad at 19 years old with a pair of underwear tied around his face, we got on to the topic of sleep.

Both boys made no bones about the fact that they both feel, 9 hours of sleep is what's right for them. The simplicity and candor of their honest answer totally impressed me.

You see, I think I've been sold this North American idea that, when talking about sleep, it's more noble and impressive to express ones lack of need OR time for sleep.

Really? Does it make sense that we should we be ashamed of treating ourselves to an activity that can repair cells, reduce stress, improve concentration and memory and even help control body weight!?!

So, thank you boys (and baby - who is INSISTING I get lots of sleep) for reminding how bizarre that way of thinking about sleep is.

After all, doesn't it make more sense to sleep for 9 hours a night and live, with health and vigor for 15 hours a day, rather then sleep for 5 and simply coast for 19?

Am I talking too much about napping and sleeping these days or what?!?
