Baby In The Buggy

makes me happy.

Someone took their first trip to the Supermarket yesterday.

Look at the joy - the pure joy of riding around in the buggy!

As Feist would say...

...we'll collect the moments one by one.
I guess that's how the future's done.

That's right baby! That's what we're all about over here - collecting simple moments of joy and happiness one by one.

The Real Life Tonka Trucks

make me happy.

This was the view from my front stoop about 6 six ago - cute little bungalows, all in a row.

The only thing out of the ordinary would be that little piece of construction equipment, AKA - The Excavator!, sitting on the front lawn of the second house down.

That was at 9:30am.

This one was at 4:30!?!

And then, just a couple days ago, he showed up again! This time going to town on the house...

two doors down from the first one!

And here we sit today. In that cute little yellow bungalow...

right beside my parents pink little bungalow, about to begin renovations of our very own!

Oh lordy lord, I'm getting excited!

Many updates to follow.

Random Exercise

makes me happy.

As I've mentioned before, I love to do random exercises. A set of push-ups here, ten squats over there, and always random high kicks whenever I'm in a space where there is enough room.

Like the kitchen...

with Kevyn peeking his head around the corner.

Someone Else Saying It Better Then I Ever Could

makes me happy.

I read this the other day over here...

If you aren't hungry enough to eat an apple, you aren't hungry.

Serious words to live by.

Cards With The Girls

makes me happy.

Yesterday afternoon I hooked up with Emma, Sammy & Tammy to get our euchre on.

We had to plan this date a month out. Yes, our lives are full. That, is a good thing.

So for 3 hours I chatted, caught up, laughed and even played a few cards with these fine ladies.

And then I got home in time to spend a couple hours...

hanging in the kitchen...

with the my girls, letting daddy take our picture.

Wrap it up with a warm bath and mark that one a 10!

Learning to Juggle

makes me happy.

This little family of ours is juggling about 9 different balls in the air these days.

Lots to do. Lots of things to learn. Lots of decisions to make.

It's a journey. No. It's THE journey. There is nothing else. No start. No finish. Just one blissful moment after another, enjoyed right here, in the now.

The Process

makes me happy.

So I don't really get packaged food.

Well that's not entirely true, I guess I do get it to a certain extent but, not to nearly to the extent that it's consumed.

I mean, if I was always too busy doing other things then having the time to prepare my family wholesome meals made with fresh foods I think I would begin to reconsider what was so pressing on my figurative plate to keep my literal plate full of chemicals and preservatives.

Kev and I have been discussing Byrdie's diet a lot as of late and, in short, here's where I stand on the topic... let's make it!

You see, while I'd love to be an all organic, low-glycemic, hormone free, no sugar, vegetarian lovin' mama... I'm just not there yet.

Truth be told, I've recently taken to the task of perfecting the chocolate chip cookie and after my sister gifted me with a couple Siplat mats and cooling racks for my birthday last week... I see no end to my baking escapades in near sight.

The thing is - I love the process. It's a process that takes away the ability to run to the cupboard and inhale a sleeve of Oreos. It's a process that allows me to pat myself on the back at times, and one that has me laughing at myself at others. But always, one I enjoy.

One I'm sure to enjoy even more when I've got Byrdie by my side, helping to season the fish and fork the peanut butter cookies.

So as it stands right now, we decided our general rule of thumb, as we begin our journey into vast ocean of culinary delights with the little Byrd - if we can make it... she can eat it!

Making Friends

makes me happy.

Yesterday Kev and I were treated to brunch by our dear friend, Health & Wellness Professional extraordinaire, Meghan.

Clearly Meghan's husband Fiztroy, one of Kev's best friends since grade 9, played a part in the treating of us to the brunch but... he graciously took on the role of Byrd Entertainer while Meg's worked the grass fed, hormone free, lamb sausage grill.

Spending time and catching up with these two was long over due and on top of that, brunch was truly spectacular. Meghan has mad skills in the kitchen, able to create delicious dishes that leave you feeling satisfied but not stuffed or bloated.

And while she certainly knows her stuff when it comes to the technical ins and outs of mindful eating, a topic I rarely bore of listening to, Meghan herself is extremely mindful of not sharing unsolicited advice about one's diet.

And I like that... a lot.

Anyone else think people should keep their opinions to themselves? How about if people didn't even have opinions about how others should live at all, let alone share them?

Yes and please!

What got me thinking about this?

Ahhh, maybe it was the toothless older gentleman that was dissecting my grocery cart today in line at the store. Immediately after he praised me for the four heads of broccoli I was buying he condemned me for the 85% coca Lindt bar in the buggy.

He told me it would melt my teeth. I told him I flossed. He stuck his finger in my face and yelled, "IT DOESN'T MATTER!"

I'm guessing he was sharing from experience.

Still.

My Little Soldier

makes me happy.

Any Arrested Development fans out there? In the humble opinion of this household - it was one of the funniest series to ever hit the airways. And making reference to the show in our lives is right up there with finding ways of quoting The Big Lebowski daily.

So if you've watched the show you know Tobias Fünke is a Never Nude, which is as straight forward as it sounds... he's never nude (jean shorts in the shower folks).

As one can plainly see, Byrdie is clearly not a Never Nude although, her slight and sporatic naps these days have earned her a similar title, The Never Naps.

Well now the little Byrd is learning how to stand, which is such an awesome milestone to witness. However, part of this process, at least for Byrdie, includes locking her knees.

Ladies and gentlemen, I present for you...

The Never Bends!

Happy weekend!

Mi Casa Es... Her Casa

makes me happy.

Not sure if you can tell but, hiding under that soft, green blanket are eight interlocking, brightly coloured, rubber play tiles.

That's right. Bye bye white shag rug with your loose wool fibers that wrap around the baby's fingers and try to sneak into her mouth (even though you looks so sexy and chic). Hello safe blue, yellow, green and red rubber tiles!

Next on the list?

Good-bye Spiegelaus. Hello sippy cups!

Tiny Bubbles

make me happy.

While out for dinner on Saturday night a very generous friend of mine sent over a bottle of 1999 Dom Pérignon in celebration of my upcoming birthday.

I have to tell you - I don't generally drink carbonated beverages. Never in my life have I opened a can of pop and slugged it back, or even taken one big gulp for that matter, thinking it would quench my thirst. Carbonated spring water? Pass. Even my beer I prefer nitrogen based, you know, à la Kilkenny, Boddingtons or Caffery's.

But when it comes to champagne, and those delicate little bubbles, I say... "Let's dance!"

And we did. They we delightful and delicious and I was ever so grateful.

This sexy lady and our other server Kelly continued the royal treatment, spoiling me the entire evening.

While I find my birthday seems to hold less importance to me every year, I'm always incredibly touched when others take it upon themselves to make me feel as special as those tiny little bubbles.

Lucky girl I am.

Thank you.

Wonder

makes me happy.

Today is my birthday and someone very kind ordered up an absolutely glorious sunny day for me!

While Kev had originally made plans to take me shopping for my birthday, neither of us could pass on the opportunity of taking advantage of such beautiful weather. So, we loaded up the car, grab a couple cups of Timmy's, called a few of Byrdie's friends, and headed off to The Toronto Zoo!

I thought for sure, being my birthday and all, that one of us was going to score big on our roll up the rims.

Yeah - not so much.

But really,

an afternoon spent hanging with...

these 3 guys, beats free doughnuts any day of the week!

I've heard it said before,

that one of the most amazing...

parts about raising a baby...

is getting to see the world through their eyes.

For the first time again, if you will.

I get it.

It is magical...

and a ton of fun...

and can't wait to go back and show her more.

Anyone care to join us?

I've taken just over 300 photographs with my iphone. 299 are of the Byrd. Here's a couple of my favorites...

Have a great weekend everybody!
