Choices, Like Wearing Rose Coloured Glasses

make me happy.

Jennie, from Gwen Styles in the City, wrote me the other day to ask - what do I do to happy up on days when the grass might not be so green or the sky so blue.

Great question.

I think I need to back track a little though and tell you all why I find the grass so green and the sky so blue.

Because I choose to.

I approach every moment of life with acceptance and patience yet, in no way, shape, or form, do I believe life is happening to me.

I'm happening to life!

I find peace in my soul knowing that, while the ways of the Universe are mysterious, my reactions to them are not.

Having said that,

time with family and friends,

a walk in the park,

some explosive exercise,

quite moments of gratitude,

a game of cards,

and taking in the magical (& loud) fireworks happening right outside Byrdie's bedroom window, with her on my lap and daddy's arm around us, all go a long way parting any rain clouds I may encounter along my journeys.

The Game of Life

make me happy.

I'm going to continue on with some photos from our weekend but, without the play by play commentary.

Except to say, I took the photo above of myself after I stuck my head out the truck window as Kev whizzed along the QEW at 100km because we thought we heard a troll tapping on the roof. No joke.

Instead I want to tell you about the little heat wave we are experiencing right now in Toronto.

Have I told you before I'm not a big fan of air conditioning?

Well, I'm not.

And, have I ever told you about the crazy baby monitor that Kev and I have.

Lots of bells and whistles folks. Much beeping and lots of false alarms.

One of the features I do really like on it though is that it gives a digital temperature reading.

Before I had Byrdie, I read that it's wise to keep the baby's room on the cooler side as it allows the baby to breath easier.

In the past nine months that room has seen nothing except the 19 ºC - 21 ºC range regardless of what the rest of the house felt like.

Four steps forward.

Well tonight after I put The Byrd down, I turned on the monitor and went to the kitchen to prepare dinner.

A new alarm noise! One I've never heard before!

I grab the handset, thinking - here I go again, trying to decipher one of the hundred thousand digital images that flashes when I've done something wrong.

Not this time. Flashing right back at me, filling the whole digital screen was 30 ºC! 30 ºC! 30 ºC!

Okay, there was no exclamation point, but still... ten steps back.

Guess who's going to learn to love air conditioning?

The First Eight

make me happy.

Oh what a wonderful weekend - close to 200 photos to prove it!

I promise I'll edit.

Saturday, Kevyn, Rob, Cashius, Byrdie & I headed down to The Distillery District to check out our frames and Dean's photos.

Looking good.

When we broke for a beverage on a patio they made us tie Cashius up across the way.

Yeah, she wasn't really feeling that...

until I brought The Byrd out. Check out that smile.

No - check out those smiles.

My girls! I'm one lucky momma.

Our Frames + Dean Bradley's Photos

makes me happy.

Yup! Our entrepreneurial spirit is alive and well and we're still making frames!

We've recently teamed up with Personal Touch Management who, in turn, introduced us to photographer Dean Bradley.

Dean loved our frames and has agreed to use them in a show he is doing this weekend in Toronto's Distillery District.

So if you're looking for a fun way to spend a relaxing afternoon this long weekend, check out Artisans At The Distillery and be sure to look for Dean's photos and our frames.

Happy long weekend!

Creating A Movement

makes me happy.

While grocery shopping the other day I picked up some prunes to sauté and puree for the Byrd and couldn't help but think - what an unappetizing word prune is.

Right there and then I decided I was going to create a movement (excuse the pun) to change their name.

And so it began, one short hour later, when Kev came into the kitchen to help put away the groceries...

Kev - "What are those?"
Me - "Dried plums."
Kev - "Oh... apricots."

Off to a flying start!

Striped Socks

make me happy.

I have a real love for striped socks.

So much so in fact, I've had dreams of opening a Striped Sock Shop.

Byrdie would clearly be one of my top models.

Loving Fairly

makes me happy.

Something I love about babies...

Babies allow people to express and give love with total ease.

Something I wish everyone would remember...

We all used to be babies.

Get it?

Hoofing It

makes me happy.

I was working down at the Toronto Stock Exchange this morning at 7:30am.

That means, when and where I get off the subway is busy with early morning professionals.

To get off the subway platform and back above ground we are provided with the option of either taking the escalator or the stairs.

Without question, I choose the stairs.

I know, given the option, that's not everyone's first choice but, here's the question I have for you...

even if taking the stairs isn't your first choice,

would you WAIT IN LINE?!? to take the escalator with a flight of empty stairs staring back at you?

People do!

Mind blowing.

What does this story have to do with these photos from gorgeous Emma's baby shower?

Just wanted to share some sweet photos from my Sunday afternoon and a silly story from my Monday morning.
